NEWS Microsoft is disbanding a 420-man manufacturing division which produces the UltimateTV digital set-top box. UltimateTV enables users to pause live TV or record one digital programme while watching another. Microsoft will continue to produce the set-top boxes but will integrate production into a new division covering all its TV interests, including MSN TV. Jon DeVaan, whose job it was to oversee all TV activities, has already been shown the door, according to the Wall Street Journal, and the 168 staff working for the UltimateTV unit, who have not already been assigned new positions elsewhere within Microsoft, are being offered redundancy if they fail to find an alternative position.
