3G hit by more cuts

Italian venture suffers...

NEWS Another 3G licence-holder is expected to announce major cuts in its operation later today in what will be see as a further blow for Europe's nascent next generation mobile market. Ipse, which is partly owned by Telefonica of Spain and Finland's Sonera, will lay off most of its 600 staff, according to today's FT. It paid E3.3bn for an Italian 3G licence in 2000. Ipse will continue to operate with a drastically reduced staff and will hold on to its licence.
