FlyingSpark signs deal with mm02

Building better wireless data apps...

NEWS UK start-up FlyingSpark has signed a deal with mm02 (formerly BT Cellnet) to improve data transmission over its GPRS network. FlyingSpark has developed an improved protocol for running wireless applications over GPRS, which silicon.com profiled at the end of last year. The protocol has been built into a system its calls and "intelligence layer", which helps applications to deal with the rigours of working in a wireless environment. The company will be supplying BT with a sales force application incorporating the intelligence layer, and a system for predictively downloading data so the applications can be used in areas with no wireless access. This is FlyingSpark's first contract with a major UK mobile operator. The deal is not an exclusive one, but FlyingSpark is not necessarily looking for new deals. FlyingSpark's marketing director Keith Day said: "We're very impressed with BT Cellnet. They've certainly got their heads screwed on when it comes to business applications."
