NEWS Orange has today unveiled a range of business and leisure services based on the always-on high speed internet service GPRS.
Orange soft-launched GPRS handsets into its shops at end of last year, but deliberately played down the launch to avoid boosting public expectations.
In Cannes today, the company unveiled a range of services which will run over GPRS, including wireless business services such as intranet connection and a secure business portal, developed in connection the research laboratories of France Telecom.
BT Cellnet and Vodafone both launched their GPRS-enabled services last year, though BT Cellnet began trialling the previous summer.
Take-up is believed to have been modest, though official figures are not published.
