NEWS T-Mobile and Vodafone are today expected to announce an initiative to allow consumers to use their mobile phones as electronic wallets. The idea is that mobile phone users will be able to buy almost anything from retailers and vending machines by securely sending information from their handsets. Although Vodafone and Germany's T-Mobile are the world's first and third largest mobile groups respectively, they will stress at this week's CeBit show that their drive is about involving all mobile phone operators, according to the WSJ Europe. Previous efforts by operators to offer mobile e-wallets, such as a Sonera service in Finland, have been widely reported but consumers have been slow to warm to the concept. The latest initiative will also need the co-operation of retailers.
