NEWS Video specialist IndigoVision has signed a deal with the US Navy. Space and Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), an agency of the Navy, will use the technology in a variety of defence applications. SPAWAR makes robots which use IndigoVision video processors to compress and send pictures from onboard cameras to a handheld device. The robots are used to get images from dangerous areas. They were used to survey Ground Zero. Oliver Vellacott, chief executive of IndigoVision, said in a statement: "The deal is a major stamp of credibility for our technology since defence applications typically require far more rigorous conditions than other applications." Vellacott hopes for further defence-related contracts in the future. The Edinburgh-based company has also extended an existing deal with chipmaker Cirrus Logic. Cirrus hopes to ship chips with embedded Mpeg4 technology by the year end.
