NEWS Research in Motion (RIM), the maker of the Blackberry mobile email device, is to licence the technology to allow other companies to manufacture them. RIM will offer hardware and software for building handhelds and phones. It will also offer integrated chips from Analog Devices that can support wireless communications and Java technology. Blackberry has proved popular in the US - 13 000 companies use the handheld device. It is available in the UK through BT Cellnet.
