Sharp ships Linux PDA

NEWS Sharp today begins US shipments of its Linux-based handheld computer, the Zaurus. The Zaurus is currently the only mass-market PDA based on the Linux operating system - most products currently on the market run on operating systems from Palm or Microsoft. The Zaurus SL-5500 uses Lineo's version of Linux, an Intel 206MHz StrongARM processor and 64Mb of RAM. It takes Compact Flash and SD expansion slots. A UK launch of the Zaurus SL-5500 is planned for 17 April, and it will be available from the first of May. A wireless PC card option will be available shortly after launch. The UK price has not yet been confirmed.
