Probe into surgeon's mobile obsession

NEWS A surgeon in Hong Kong has been sued by one of his patients for answering a call on his mobile during an operation. Dr Tung Hiu-Ming answered his mobile phone to talk about a car he wanted to buy while giving his patient a colonoscopy. The patient, taxi driver Gary Chung, was not impressed with his doctor's behaviour during the delicate probe to check the health of his colon and lower intestine. Chung is attempting to get compensation for the doctor's behaviour during the operation and also names the hospital authority in his lawsuit. The independent investigator into the case, the Medical Council, stated that even though Chung overheard the doctor's conversation with his car dealer, professional misconduct was not an issue as the doctor did not talk on the phone for long.
