Nokia says 'stop repairing faulty phones'

Guarantee wrangling in Finland...

NEWS Nokia has sent out a memo to all its resellers in Finland to stop repairing manufacturing faults after the phone's guarantee period has expired. Nokia has said the handsets don't have a lifetime warranty and has decided to limit the time customers have to return the handset, according to the Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat. The paper said the move was sparked by Nokia repairing large numbers of the faulty 8210 handsets for free earlier this spring, despite some of faults resulting from owner misuse. People can still get their phones fixed for free during the guarantee period. The company is yet to extend its policy to the UK, according to Nokia spokeswoman. Carphone Warehouse in the UK told silicon.com: "If it's a manufacturer's fault, we'll repair it free of charge. We call it sympathetic warranty."
