Now we can all be David Hasselhoff...

NEWS IBM is working with automobile giant Honda to introduce a navigation system based on voice recognition and touch sensitive technology. From September 2002, motorists will be able to drive around in their Honda Accords safe in the knowledge that the correct route is only a verbalised question away. A button embedded in the steering wheel activates the voice recognition system which is relayed through the car's audio system. The wireless navigation system will use IBM's ViaVoice, which the company claims can recognise different accents. Telematics technology has been around for a while and was first popularised by General Motors and its OnStar system. However, whether telematics will catch on in the consumer market is still not clear. In June, Ford ended its Wingcast venture.
