NEWS Sony Ericsson is taking a novel approach to selling its camera-phone in the US. Rather than wait for grassroots interest in the phones to develop, Sony is paying actors, actresses and models to use the phone. Sixty such people will be dispatched to bars across the US to secretly promote the phone to punters. Working from scripts, they will talk to punters without revealing that they're on Sony's payroll. Other groups of actors will be sent to tourist attractions such as the Empire State Building and ask people to take their pictures. According to the Wall Street Journal the company is spending $5m on the campaign.
