NEWS Intel has launched its Extended Wireless PC Initiative, which it hopes will simplify the development of software to bring together PCs, TVs, stereos and other home entertainment products. At the centre of the drive is a PC peripheral called a digital media adapter. It uses 802.11 networking standards or Universal Plug 'n' Play (UPpnP) and standard A/V cabling to connect to a PC and to other home appliances. The digital media adapter will provide a central point of control for a variety of electrical devices - thus removing the confusion caused by a plethora of similar looking remote controls serving a variety of appliances.
