NEWS Hutchison 3G UK has inked deals with five companies to allow digital mapping and location-based services over its upcoming third-generation mobile phone network. The operator - which will launch under the brand name 3 in the UK - has signed up Ordnance Survey and Tele Atlas to provide users with maps and related services, while whereonearth, IONIC Software and TCS will supply location-based service (LBS) technology. The majority backer of Hutchison 3G UK is Hong Kong's Hutchison 3G, while NTT DoCoMo and KPN Mobile hold 20 and 15 per cent stakes respectively. Hutchison will eventually use the same LBS providers across its sister networks in Australia, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Israel and Sweden.
