SMS chess wins a Bafta

NEWS The British Academy has awarded SMS Chess top honours in its interactive awards. The Academy, more famous for its TV and film awards has been running awards for interactive media for the past five years. The SMS Chess application, developed by Purple Software, scooped top gong in the mobile game category. Players who own a Sony Ericsson P800 can compete against each other anytime, anywhere and the judges were reportedly impressed by the company's ability to bring a classic format into the 21st century. Patrick Naughton, managing director and founder of Telecom One, who sponsored the award, said: "This is a great achievement for Purple Software. The mobile gaming market is still very young, but in the last year has greatly matured, with an explosion of ever more sophisticated games that are being lapped up by consumers. Purple Software has placed itself at the forefront of this revolution."
