RAC aims to save £1m on mobile communications

Deal with Orange will also improve its roadside breakdown service

NEWS The RAC is targeting savings of £1m and improved customer service by consolidating its mobile communications with Orange. The motoring organisation previously used a number of different mobile service providers but as part of a new contract will streamline its operations with Orange Business Solutions. The deal will result in standardised handsets and services, cost savings on training, repairs and end user queries, the deployment of 5,000 handsets to improve roadside assistance and customer service, and a bespoke electronic billing service. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed but the contract will run across RAC’s companies, which include Lex Vehicle Leasing, BSM, Hyundai Cars UK and RAC Auto Windscreens. Paul Moulding, head of group purchasing at the RAC, said in a statement: "All of the RAC patrol vehicles had fixed car phones which Orange was able to replace with new phones and car kits. In addition, as a result of this new contract we have been able to deploy more mobile phones and therefore service our customers more effectively."
