NEWS T-Mobile has signed a deal with the Texaco chain to provide wireless internet access hotspots at petrol and service stations across the UK. The service will be rolled out to several hundred Texaco petrol stations mainly on A-roads over the next few months. Customers using a wirelessly enabled laptop will be able to drive onto a Texaco forecourt, park in a dedicated bay and log onto their corporate network. Texaco will use T-Mobile's HotSpot service, in conjunction with Mapesbury Communications, an emerging broadband Wi-Fi hotspot provider. The deal extends T-Mobile's current HotSpot service, which is available in 56 Starbucks coffeehouses in 21 towns and cities across the UK as well as six Starwood Hotels. Brian McBride, UK managing director at T-Mobile, said the company is aiming to develop a variety of locations for business people to access the internet on the move. Texaco's general manager of marketing and development, Peter Oakford, said the Wi-Fi hotspots are another differentiating service the chain can offer to customers in addition to petrol and snacks.
