NEWS Vodafone has signed a deal to be able to stream action and provide related information from Champions League football games for the next three seasons. Winning the Wireless Rights package from UEFA, football's governing body in Europe, will undoubtedly be compared to the arrangement between the English Premiership and pioneering third-generation mobile operator 3. The deal covers 12 countries: exclusive rights in Egypt, Greece, Hungary, Malta and Spain, as well as non-exclusive rights in France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and the UK. The content will be presented through the Vodafone live! interface. It comprises ringtones, reviews, line-ups, team news, results and downloadable icons, and even though it will mainly make use of 2.5G GPRS network technology near-live video clips and short highlights from historic Champions League matches will also be offered. The ink dried on the arrangement on Sunday barely in time. Vodafone said the content will be available from the start of the first round of matches, which begin on Tuesday evening this week.
