NEWS Oracle has done a deal with Vodafone to give users access to its 10g database software and related products over wireless networks.

All applications that run on Oracle's app server software, such as Oracle E-business Suite, Oracle Collaboration Suite and productivity and communication software, will come pre-enabled for Vodafone Network Services.

General availability of the mobile Oracle offerings will come next month but in the meantime users such as Scottish Water and Equity Technology and ID Systeme, in Sweden and Germany respectively, have signed up.

Scottish Water will connect its call centres with field engineers who will use Oracle TeleServices and Oracle Field Service applications.

Vodafone is keen to do deals with the major enterprise software companies. Last week it announced an alliance with Microsoft to further marry the worlds of IT and mobile telephony using web services technologies.
