NEWS Kodak's move into the world of mobile communications is set to be wound on today with an announcement with US mobile operator Cingular.
Kodak Mobile will target camera phone users who take photos and then want them printed up. It will allow easier management of stored photos but also the use of kiosks where snaps are transferred via Bluetooth or infra red to imaging machines.
Kodak has been working with handset giant Nokia on these facilities, as demonstrated at events earlier this year http://www.silicon.com/networks/mobile/0,39024665,39116653,00.htm.
It expects to have around 50,000 kiosks around the world by the end of this year. They will mainly be in retail outlets.
Analysts are forecasting cameras within phones will soon be the norm, becoming a must-have application.
