DoOnGo raises further $18m

Confidence shown in over-the-air software for mobile

NEWS Mobile software provider DoOnGo has secured $18m in third-round venture capital funding.

The series C round was led by VantagePoint Venture Partners and will see DoOnGo expand further in the US, Europe and Asia as well as develop its products and sales and marketing operations.

DoOnGo supplies software to network operators for over-the-air (OTA) changes to handsets. Such OTA updates can be for bug fixes - increasingly common as phone software gets more complex - as well as upgrades and even for downloading new applications.

DoOnGo has already had some success in Japan, working with handset makers NEC, Panasonic and Sharp for phones on the NTT DoCoMo network.

Speaking to silicon.com last year, DoOnGo co-founder and executive VP Steve Artim said network operators and equipment manufacturers "have too much on their plates" to devote enough time to OTA software.

Also contributing to the $18m in funding were CDIB Ventures, Vertex Management and Mitsui Venture Capital.
