NTL locks down prison radio deal

Prison service inks £2m, three-year deal

NEWS NTL has today announced it has won as three-year, £2m deal with the Prison Service for the refit and maintenance of their radio system.

NTL Broadcast's Public Safety group will replace the Prison Service's analogue radio systems, as well as the handheld radios used by staff. The first phase of the deal will see the radios in 40 prisons replaced, followed by new maintenance contracts being agreed for over 80 sites.

The contracts will cover installation, support, maintenance and software upgrades.

The exclusive deal will extend across all the 128 prison authorities in the UK and comes with an option to extend the contract for another two years.
