NEWS Speculation over the future of Siemens' mobile division has been quashed by an exec who has proclaimed the company will revamp it rather than sell up.
Siemens recently announced the merger of its telecoms and mobile units, scheduled for October, along with the departure of its CEO, which prompted analysts to ask whether these signalled the first steps towards a sale.
The mobile unit has been struggling of late - Siemens' third-quarter results showed that, despite an increase in handset sales, the division managed to post an €88m loss.
That doesn't mean it's ripe for the chop, according to soon-to-be head of telecoms division Lothar Pauly.
Speaking at the launch of the company's new SK65 handset, he said Siemens had three choices - to fix, close or sell the mobile unit. "We are going to fix it," he added.
