Robbie album gets phone memory card release

Costs just three times more than a CD

NEWS Robbie Williams' Greatest Hits album arrives in music shops on- and offline today - as well as some phone shops. For the first time in the UK, an album will be released, pre-loaded, on a mobile memory card.

The memory card album will be released through branches of Carphone Warehouse from next month and will feature video content as well as 'CD quality' version of the album.

While the mobile format will doubtless go down a storm with teenagers, its pricing may cause some parents a few grumbles. While a CD copy will cost around £8.99 from online outlets, the pre-loaded card will cost around £29.99 or £9.99 when bought with a handset.

Carphone Warehouse and Williams' record company, EMI, are currently negotiating the release of further albums in time for the lucrative Christmas period.

Danny Van Emden, digital music director at EMI Music, described the move in a statement as "the next logical chapter in the affair" of mobile usage.
