NEWS With over 250 third party accessories available for the iPod, it was only a matter of time before Apple got involved. The Cupertino company is now taking orders for its first official offering - the iPod Sock.
The iPod Socks are pretty much as they sound - small, woollen covers for iPods. The iPod covers are sold in a pack of six, each sock in a different colour, for $29 a set. Sock wearers can choose from blue, purple, grey, pink, orange and green, to keep up with your mood, apparently.
The Socks fit all models of iPod. Apple even offers instructions to the uninitiated for using the Socks: " Forgive us if we're stating the obvious, but here's how it works: Just slide your iPod into the sock to keep it safe and warm. Slide it out to dock or change playlists. It's as easy as... putting on a pair of socks."
Although the Socks made their first appearance at the event where Apple unveiled its Photo iPod and U2 iPod but its subsequent no-show had prompted speculation the Socks were a joke.
The socks will be ready to ship in early December, according to Apple's website.

iPod socks?
Which 'genius' at Apple thought up this idea?
I'm no electronics 'genius', like at the Apple stores, but won't this sock insulate the iPod and cause it too overheat and malfunction?
Seriously though, this is sort of thing that sets Apple up for so much ridicule and when they sell junk like this they certainly deserve it.
This company makes so much great stuff but every now and then someone at Cupertino has a brain explosion (or maybe too much Mary Jane) and foists something like this out onto the market and expects it to sell just because it is an Apple product (Dalmatian and Flower Power iMacs I'm looking in your direction).
The company understandably wants to leverage out the success of the iPod and make as much money as they can, but surely "the same company who bought you the iPod" can come up with something more substantial for iPod users than a sock?
I could be wrong though and this 'product' could be the 'Tickle-Me-Elmo' for this Christmas and... well... sell. I doubt it though and Apple will learn their lesson — again — and get back to the real business of computers, iPods and software.

ipod socks are amazing. they do not make your ipod overheat as there is nothing inside to make them overheat( they are solid state ). they protect your ipod from scratching ( this happens easily because it has a chrome back ) and you don't have to have one of those big clumsy cases to protect them. they're genius!!!!!
