NEWS BenQ Mobile - the joint venture which arose from the ashes of Siemens' handset division - has officially begun operations.
Now the number six player in mobile devices with a five per cent share of the market, according to Gartner, BenQ Mobile expects its first handset to be ready for sale next year.
The companies' top execs will be plucked from the ranks of Siemens and BenQ. BenQ's executive VP and chief marketing officer, Jerry Wang, will be BenQ Mobile's new chairman, while the former president of Siemens' mobile devices division, Clemens Joos, will take over as CEO of the unit.
The BenQ Mobile brand will officially be revealed to the public in the spring of next year. BenQ has also licensed the Siemens brand name for five years, which it expects to use throughout 2006.
