easyMobile: Help us poke fun at Orange

And get yourself a cruise

NEWS

No-frills mobile provider easyMobile is asking the public for fresh ideas to help it take a pop at rival Orange.

The pair are currently at loggerheads over easyMobile's use of the colour orange in advertising - Orange says easyMobile is infringing its trademarks, easyMobile says companies in the easyGroup have always used orange branding and always will.

Now easyMobile is inviting members of the public to create a caption for a photo featured in its ads – which shows an Orange-sponsored boat capsized. The prize for the best entry will be a week on one of its bargain basement easyCruises in the Caribbean.

Would-be wits are asked to leave slogans representing Orange's "attitude to us" over the colour row, easyMobile said. The photo can be found here.

easyMobile was not so charitable about sharing the use of colour last year, when it demanded an Orange reseller, whose company also went by the name of easymobile, stop using the easymobile name, although owner David Evans claimed to have been using the name for two years longer than the Stelios-owned easyGroup.

And is this the same "Easy" group that threatened to sue EasyArt? Pot Kettle Black.

    From BBC News:

Easygroup has for some time been trying to make sure that no-one else can use the "easy" tag as part of a brand name, sending letters threatening legal action unless domain names are handed over free of charge.

It even has a special part of its website devoted to encouraging customers to inform it if they find it.

Under the heading "Please help us to stop brand thieves", the company says: "Some people think they can make a fast buck by stealing our name and our reputation.
