Unisys has signed a series of new contracts worth £1.6m to provide messaging technology for BT's Wholesale business.

The three deals are an extension of Unisys' existing seven-year relationship with BT Wholesale, and will see the IT services company provide converged fixed and mobile voicemail, a new messaging platform for BT corporate customers and celebrity voices for BT's text messaging service.

The new messaging platform for BT's business customers is part of Unisys' Ensemble product portfolio and will allow BT to offer the specific voicemail services required by corporate users.

Unisys will be responsible for the concept and design stage through to implementation of the new services for BT.

Debra Covey, managing director of operations and planning at BT Wholesale, said in a statement: "Convergence is the key strategic issue in our industry today, as people want communications services that are more flexible and easier to use."
