T-Mobile has launched a new service it believes will help customers find out how good their coverage is.
The StreetCheck service, which is now available online and in T-Mobile shops, will show potential customers how T-Mobile coverage shapes up in their favourite locations - home, work, favourite pub or relatives' house - for both 2G and 3G connections.
Anyone finding coverage below par can return their phone and their feedback on coverage will be used to update the system.
The system has already been trialled in the US and is being brought to the UK for the first time. The idea, according to T-Mobile, is to cut churn by avoiding a situation whereby individuals are signed up for a mobile subscription and it's subsequently discovered they can't get a signal.
A T-Mobile spokesman told silicon.com: "There were legacy issues from 121 and we didn't have such a great network. The perception is T-Mobile is not as strong as other networks and we are."
T-Mobile is also considering extending the scheme to show overseas coverage and creating a similar coverage map for wi-fi hotspots.
