This is one of the transmitters that can be placed on the side of the road at accident trouble spots. It picks up information on the local road conditions - such as ice or an obstruction - and transmits it to receivers in approaching cars.

Pic No 4 shows a large red warning triangle that might appear on one's sat-nav. One would need to be very strong-minded not to let such a thing divert one's attention from the road ahead.even momentarily, let alone to take in the "details of temperature and humidity" displayed below it.
