HTC has taken the wraps off what it claims is the first GSM and WiMax mobile, the HTC Max 4G.
The touchscreen handset, which runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, will be available first from Russian operator Yota.
In the race to pick the next dominant wireless standard, WiMax has often been painted as the poor cousin to LTE - the cellular successor to HSDPA or 3.5G - and a standard likely to remain confined to non-mobile data-centric devices including set-top boxes or laptop cards. Yota's decision to carry the 4G Max shows WiMax is now beginning to make its mark on cellular devices too, however.
As well as wi-fi, GPS and VoIP capabilities, HTC says the 4G Max will give users access to Yota's video on demand service via its mobile WiMax network.

This is great for the WiMAX in general but looks like us in US might have to wait a while or maybe wait for other WiMAX handsets from other manufacturers.
