Photos: Army tech marches into future

From roving robots to high-tech goo...

The robot has been designed to be light enough for troops to carry with them as part of their kit. It can be disassembled and stowed in a backpack as shown here.

The robot has a 360-degree camera and can either be remote-controlled or can navigate itself within an area set out by its operators.

This marvellous technology is wonderful news for the military but it will not answer the current Afghanistan problem. At present our soldiers fight their way into taking an area, the Taliban either dead or moved away. When our soldiers then move on to another job the Taliban rapidly return, largely negating the military's efforts and sacrifices. Our politicians do not understand that the biggest need is "boots on the ground" (infantry).
