Photos: Sony Ericsson debuts see-through Xperia phone

Pureness - a 3G phone designed to get back to basics...

Mobile maker Sony Ericsson has debuted another phone in its Xperia range - but with a twist.

The see-through display is a world first, according to Sony Ericsson, requiring battery, memory card and antenna to be miniaturised to fit inside the bottom portion of the device.

Unlike other devices in the series, such as the X2 smartphone and the upcoming X10 Android device, the Xperia Pureness mobile phone (pictured above) has been designed to offer fewer features, not more.

A clear winner, if you can see through the hype.

    What a pointless gimick.
A triumph of design over useability.
'Aspirational Item' is shorthand for 'Something bought by someone with more money than sense'

And the point of a see through display is . . . . ? With a price tag of 650 pounds (leave this at home and take the smart phone), no camera, no headphone port, small 1.8-inch screen useless for web browsing etc., I just don't get it ! I’ve had many Sony Ericsson phones in the past which I’ve really liked, but think I’ll pass on this one.

Clearly an Xmas present for the person who has everything
