In brief: US court lets ISPs off the hook

NEWS In a landmark lawsuit on Tuesday, the US Supreme Court ruled that AOL is not responsible for illegal material published through its Web service. David Kennedy, chief executive of the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA), welcomed the ruling. "I'm delighted to see common sense prevail at last," he said. Recently, the news that a Compuserve employee in Germany was convicted for illegal content publishing caused considerable concern at the ISPA. But the US ruling will set the trend for all future legal disputes of this kind, according to Kennedy.
