In brief: Esprit awarded Belgian licence

By Tony Hallett, 9 July 1998 13:16

NEWS The development of Esprit's European telecoms network was given a boost today when the company was awarded a licence to operate in Belgium. David Oertle, Esprit CEO, called the licence "an important milestone in the development of the second ring of our pan-European fibre network". The Esprit network will link cities in the UK, France, Holland and Belgium. Last week, the telco signed an interconnect agreement with France Telecom, but the company has previously stressed the importance of either owning or controlling network infrastructure.
