NEWS Bay Networks has acquired German packet voice provider, Netserve, in a bid to break into the voice over IP on cable modem market.
Netserve will become part of Bay's Broadband Technology division.
Bay said the speed advantages of voice over IP on cable is 50 to 100 times that of conventional 56Kbps modems.
Bay will use Netserve's VoiceServer as a gateway between the public switched telephony network and its existing cable modem termination system.
