CommerceNet invests in XML Exchange

NEWS CommerceNet - a 500-strong industry consortium - has bought the XML Exchange, a forum which develops the meta programming language, from XML Solutions. CommerceNet will turn the online forum into an e-registry service, where anyone can submit new eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML) tags for public use. The consortium's members include Internet service providers, banks, telcos and end users. Discussion and monitoring will eventually lead to standard XML commands being produced by and for each industry. Randall Whiting, president and CEO of CommerceNet, said that XML would create more interoperability between applications, companies and industries. XML goes beyond HTML commands by describing the type of information displayed on a Web page. XML Solutions launched its online forum just ten weeks ago, at www.xmlx.com.
