In brief: Broadcast.com enjoys flotation

By Polly Raymond, 21 July 1998 13:28

NEWS Broadcast.com joined the growing ranks of Internet start-up successes yesterday, as its shares leapt from $18 to $62.75 in the first day of its Initial Public Offering. The three year-old company - which gathers and broadcasts video and audio from across the Web - is still unprofitable, but investors snapped up its stock. Other Internet companies which are still failing to see a profit, including Amazon.com, have also seen share prices rise continuously over the last few months.
