In brief: Lucent makes Australian aquisition

By Tony Hallett, 21 July 1998 11:45

NEWS Lucent Technologies has offered AUS$114m in cash for JNA, an Australian telecoms equipment vendor. Lucent says its goal is to increase its presence in the Australian market and possibly to distribute JNA products globally. JNA is a leading supplier to Telstra, the country's largest telco. If successful, the purchase would be the latest in a series of acquisitions by the former Bell Labs unit of AT&T, further improving its Australian R&D facilities.
