NEWS Online bookstore, Amazon.com, posted twice the loss for its second quarter as for its first quarter. This was despite more than quadrupling sales. For the quarter ending 30 June, Amazon.com lost $15.8m on sales of $116m. Shin-pei Tsay, research associate at Giga Information Group in the US, said: "The whole Internet space isn't showing returns yet. There are still only 20 million households online." She said the Web brings different expenses and issues for business to deal with. Tsay predicts ecommerce sites will begin to show a profit by 2002.
