In brief: Gemini finds first UK customer

NEWS Gemini - a submarine cable link from London to New York - has found its first UK customer in Internet backbone provider, NetKonect, after its launch in March. The cable is the first transatlantic network designed to carry voice and data traffic between Europe and the US. It links 4,000 buildings in Europe with nearly 30,000 in the US. It was laid in response to the growing corporate demand for advanced communications, including videoconferencing and real-time voice over IP, the company claims. NetKonect will now offer ATM-based communications services to its business customers.
