Deutsche Telecom ordered to free up lines to rivals

NEWS Restrictions have been applied to Deutsche Telekom (DT) in the row over cheap mobile calls. The German state courts have ordered the telco to free up telephone lines to WorldCom, after DT blocked them on 17th July. A consortium including Alpha Telecom, First Telecom and Interphone offer mobile phones users discounts on service numbers through a lopphole in their contracts with DT. However the national telco is complaining it has to pay up to DM0.5 for each call. Regulators are investigating the matter, and will have to decide under what conditions service numbers can be used in the future. Until then, the numbers are to remain freely accessible.
