NEWS BT has restructured its UK operations in an effort to improve customer service and make the company more efficient. The telco has denied the move will lead to significant job losses. The revamp, overseen by group managing director, Bill Cockburn sees a new BT UK Markets division responsible for £10bn of annual sales, and covering voice and data services and products, as well as telemarketing and telesales operations. Recently recruited young-gun Afshin Mohebbi, who cut his teeth at SBC Communication in the US, will head the unit. The other units, which will start to operate individually from October, are BT UK Customer Services, BT UK Products and Solutions, BT UK Enterprises, BT UK Mobility, BT UK Business Services, and BT UK Networks, which will continue to be headed up by Chris Earnshaw. BT's Cockburn said the reorganisation is "all about driving for growth, effectiveness and seamless world class customer service". In particular, observers have noted BT's effort to address the small and medium sized enterprise market and teleworkers.
