NEWS Thirty four thousand US West staff walked out on strike just after midnight on Saturday. The telco failed to agree a five-year deal with the US communications workers' union over issues including forced overtime, health benefits and pay. US West has called in 15,000 managers to maintain services until the strike is resolved. The company said there will be some domestic service interruptions but long distance communications will not be affected.
