NEWS Cable operator Telewest Communications yesterday said it will buy rival NTL's 27.5 per cent stake in Birmingham Cable. Telewest will get another 44 per cent of the company once its acquisition of General Cable is completed in September. NTL's share of Birmingham Cable was itself a result of the company buying Comcast's UK operations. Telewest is gradually edging towards profitability and stock market respectability, as the UK cable market gravitates around three super providers: Cable and Wireless Communications, NTL and Telewest.
