In brief: RealNetworks reaps benefits from Clinton scandal

NEWS The real winners of the Clinton videotape scandal could be Internet broadcasters rather than the Republican Party. RealNetworks, makers of Internet broadcasting software RealPlayer, say the Clinton videos could increase their user base. A company spokeswoman said the company wouldn't be making any money out of the deal directly, but the amount of people wanting to see the tapes could mean new downloads. "It will further our mission statement - in that we want to increase the number of people using the Internet as a broadcasting medium," she said. The BBC (www.bbc.co.uk) and ITN (www.itn.co.uk) will be broadcasting the tapes from 1pm GMT.
