Dixons takes planet Online into the high street

NEWS UK high-street retailer, Dixons, has announced a major deal with Internet service provider (ISP) Planet Online to provide free Internet access for consumers. Dixons will provide ISP services from Planet Online over the counter in a move that could set a precedent for Internet access without monthly charges. The service, called Freeserve, is available to any customer with no subscription or registration fees. Planet Online will provide the network and connectivity, whilst the Press Association will provide news content. The deal will launch Planet Online into the consumer market - a move away from its traditional business base. It comes just weeks after the ISP was bought by telecoms supplier, Energis.
