BT warned over Click marketing

By Julian Goldsmith, 24 September 1998 17:53

NEWS Oftel has given BT a yellow card over allegedly using customer calling information to market BT Click, the telco's pay-as-you-go Internet service to be launched next week. The regulator announced it had concluded an investigation into BT's marketing strategy for the new service, in response to complaints of anti-competitive practices from rival Internet service providers. The regulator said it had received assurances from BT that its telemarketeers would not access customer information to find out whether they used the Internet. Oftel warned the telco that further incidents of this nature would result in the issuing of an Order against it.
