NEWS A French telecoms network to be built next to railway lines has been given a conditional go ahead by the EC. The joint venture between the French telco, Cegetel, and rail operator SNCF, will be allowed to proceed on condition they scrap an existing four-year contract giving Cegetel exclusive access to the network. The EC said the agreement violates rules over monopolistic practices, and Cegetel and SNCF will have to open up the service to other operators.
