NEWS Vendors of speech recognition technology have joined together to create a common platform for electronic commerce. If successful, the alliance could replace call centre staff with voice recognition software, linked to a standard database. The V-Commerce brand is founded on Nuance Communications' natural language technology, with support from Broadvision, Motorola, SAP and Visa amongst others. The project is still in its early stages but Nuance hopes it will become a platform for people to buy products, sell shares and get customer support automatically over the telephone.
